North Carolina Mountain Biking
If you are a biking enthusiast, you must visit the High Country of
North Carolina. North Carolina mountain biking is very popular due
to the abundance of places to ride. Lance Armstrong once coined the
mountains of Western North Carolina the best place to train in all
of the United States. With steep grades, challenging roads and
trails and beautiful scenery to enjoy along the way, it is no wonder
the area has become a haven for cyclist and mountain bikers alike.
Railroad Grade Road located in Todd, NC is hailed as being in the
top ten best bike paths in North Carolina. This is a ten mile
stretch that leads north from downtown Todd. It is a perfectly flat
road that makes this a unique place in the High Country. Railroad
Grade Road is a narrow road that leads alongside the New River and
boasts stunning views.
The Virginia Creeper Trail is a 35 mile stretch of terrain from
Abington, Virginia through Damascus, and to the North Carolina state
line near Whitetop, Virginia. There were once railroad tracks
running through this stretch of breathtaking mountainous terrain,
and they have since been ripped up and a perfect biking trail
created. You can ride independently on this moderate trail or join
one of the many guided group tours. Whichever your preference, you
are certain to enjoy this North Carolina mountain biking trail.
The Parkway is a well known gem to North Carolina mountain biking
enthusiasts. Many choose to ride along the roadsides for a smooth
ride that allows you to enjoy the elevation and views. Lees-McRae
College hosts many biking races and is a nationally ranked team. If
you are biking enthusiast, you must check out the Showdown at Sugar.
NORBA National Mountain Bike Series Event is hosted every summer on
Sugar Mountain. In this four day event, races are featured in the
following categories: cross-country, downhill, short track, super D,
and dual slalom. This event is a great time for participants as well
